“But when he (Jesus) saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd” (Matthew 9:36).
These multitudes came to Jesus seeking healing, and He healed every sickness and disease among the people (Matthew 9:35). But He lets us know why they were sick, fainting and scattered—they were sheep who had no shepherd.
This passage teaches us a vital truth. If a person is born again, they are God’s child, but if they don’t have a shepherd, they too will be lacking something; they will be sick, fainting, and scattered. Their health will be scattered by sickness, their finances scattered by lack, their marriages scattered by strife or divorce, and the list goes on. There's safety in having a shepherd and being a part of a sheepfold.
Many Christians are not living the life of victory that Jesus paid the price for them to live simply because they don’t have a shepherd—a pastor.
Ephesians 4:8 & 11 tell us that Jesus gave “gifts” unto men apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers. These fivefold ministry offices are “gifts” to the body of Christ from the heart of Jesus. They help us mature and grow up spiritually.
Someone may say, “Well, Jesus is all I need!” Yes, Jesus is all you need for your redemption, but for you to mature and grow up spiritually, you need a pastor.
Hebrews 10:25 warns us, “Not forsaking or neglecting to assemble together [as believers] as is the HABIT of some people…” – The Amplified Bible.
The “habit” of church attendance is a must for spiritual strength, for it’s when you come together with other believers, expecting to hear what God has to say to you through the pastor, that you are kept strong, fortified and your faith is built.
God bless you in your faithfulness to be a doer of His Word.
